In 2016, it seemed as though there was a celebrity death every other week, and that's not exactly too far off. It was a tough year, and with 2017 right around the corner, we have hope that things may take a turn for the better. Until then, we put together a gallery which honors just a few of those who have passed in 2016. 

16. January: David Bowie

Iconic singer-songwriter David Bowie passed away just days after releasing his final album, Blackstar, in early January.

15. January: Alan Rickman


The beloved Harry Potter actor died several days after Bowie in January.

14. March: Joey Feek

The female half of country duo Joey + Rory passed away in March after a two-year battle with cancer.

13. April: Merle Haggard

The country music world lost one of its greatest in April.

12. April: Prince

11. June: Muhammad Ali


The boxer and activist left behind brilliant quotes known by most in June.

10. June: Christina Grimmie

The talented singer was tragically killed by an obsessed fan in June.

9. June: Anton Yelchin


Yelchin, known for his Star Trek role, was killed suddenly in June.

8. August: Gene Wilder

7. November: Leonard Cohen

Cohen, a highly respected singer-songwriter, died in November.

6. November: Florence Henderson

Known for her role as Mrs. Brady in The Brady Bunch, Henderson passed away in November.

5. December: Alan Thicke

The Canadian actor and star of Growing Pains passed away in December.

4. December: Zsa Zsa Gabor

Actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor died in December at 99 years old.

3. December: George Michael

George Michael was a singer, songwriter, activist, and record producer who launched his career with Wham! He passed away on Christmas.

2. December: Carrie Fisher

Most well-known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars series, Fisher was also vocal in raising mental health awareness. Fisher passed in December.

1. December: Debbie Reynolds

Debbie Reynolds, actor and singer known for her classic roles in Tammy and the Bachelor and Singin' in the Rain, passed away just one day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher.
