Bet You Did Not Know THIS About Fathers Day...

June 15, 2018

- Not only was the very first Father’s Day held right here in Washington, it was created by a woman from here. Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to create a Mother's Day for dads to honor her Father who raised her and her 5 siblings all on his own. Spokane, Washington held the first Father's Day celebration on July 19th, 1910.

- It wasn’t until 1972 that it became an official holiday when President Nixon officially declared it a holiday.  Mother's Day, on the other hand, was made official in 1914.

- The official flower of Father's Day is the rose.  A red rose signifies that your father is living, while a white rose means he's passed away.

- The average person will spend $133 this year on Father’s Day treating dad to events, clothes, gift cards, gadgets and other stuff. This adds up to about $15.3 billion.

- However, the average Dad only expect each kid to spend around $27 on him.

- We can thank Congress for how Father’s Day is written. The creator of Father’s Day wanted it to be Fathers' Day with the apostrophe after the "S". When Congress established it as an official holiday they moved the apostrophe.

- Just over 75% of people celebrate Father’s Day.
